Help Keep a Roof Over the Miles Family

Donation protected

Hello everyone, my name is Gia Quilap and I am seeking your help to keep my mom and her family's house in livable condition. --URGENT REPAIRS ARE NEEDED to the FOUNDATION, ROOF, WALLS, FLOORING-- (see below for more details). Asking for help is one of the hardest things to do, especially in the current times we are in. But we are so grateful for anything you could contribute to help ease some of the financial nightmares they are currently facing.

It has been a whirlwind mess for my mom, my brothers and my stepdad these past years of being “home owners”. It’s hard to even consider a place home with all of the structural problems they have run into.

The previous homeowners, realtors, inspectors, lawyers, “certified” home improvement specialists all involved in messing up what should’ve been a great thing should truly be ashamed of themselves…

The current situation is that my stepfather is on disability for an injury that has seen him require surgeries and not able to get back to work, which in turn means that my mother has had to work 2 jobs, sometimes working 16 hour days, my older brother picking up overtime and my younger brother still in elementary school.

To give you a timeline of occurrences and run down of the expenses, see below for details:

- Closed on house in June 2019

- February 2020, Worried about the floors bouncing as you walk on it, discovered initial foundation issues

- No progress, as issues with lawyers and title insurance, choices either getting stuck with home or trying to sell while finding another place to live while still paying for what is left of the loan

- January 2021, neighborhood construction of moving power lines from overhead to underground, causing unmentioned sewer issues for neighborhood, raising concern for existing foundation problems

- This caused sewer drain damage, which required damage restoration

- Insurance company assessed more work was needed on the home, initially gave one month to fix all issues, or they will deem the house uninsurable but extended to end of year

- February 2021, Restoration efforts began, which led to the finding of 8 inches of solid waste build up, moisture barrier, trash all in under the home in the crawlspace

- Family had to relocate to a hotel while house was being worked on to avoid contamination from sewage

- HVAC and ducts were discovered to be in need of replacing due to previous improper installation

- March 2021, More improper non-permitted addition plumbing found improperly installed from previous homeowners, causing full house sewer drainage replacement

- June 2021, some permits not being granted to fix foundation due to almost entire home not being built to code and neglected and ignored issues from previous owners

- August 2021, Roof now needs immediate attention, as rotting has occurred, in need of support system and new gutter system

Approximate cost of remaining repairs:

- 20K Roof Replacement

- 20K Foundation

- 14K Wall adjustment after foundation

- 14K Floor adjustment after foundation

- 7K Re-level yard and clean Up

- 5K Electrical

- 5K Miscellaneous Paperwork, Permits and expenses relating to loss of income

- Total Remaining: 85k

As you can see, it just seems like one problem after the other…it seems everywhere they turn, they have been told mistruths and been jerked around left and right. They paid for a lot of the repairs needed, but are running out of funds. They have exhausted their efforts and are now seeking any help they can get. On top of all this, there is a timeline they have to meet by THE END OF THE YEAR. If the required adjustments to home aren’t met, the house will become uninsurable…which will lead to even more out of pocket expenses.

We've chosen a 25K goal, but clearly need more...but with this reached, they can at least quite literally keep the roof over their heads.

We hope you can read this situation and find it in your heart to help with what you can…every bit counts. All money and proceeds will go directly to the family so they can continue to move forward and fix this home that they were seemed to be “cursed” with…hope we can turn it back into the blessing they initially were hoping for.

Please share in your circles even if you can't donate, you never know who could be looking. Thank you, thank you and thank you
