Help Keda Survive Eviction

Donation protected
My friend Keda was for-cause evicted from her home of 11 years, for retaliatory and discriminatory reasons. Basically, she's being treated like an 'angry Black woman' and now evicted because she had the gall to stand up for herself and assert her rights. She has an active discrimination case filed against the landlord and they've been trying to evict her ever since.

Yesterday, she was on her way out the door to a doctor's appointment when the sheriffs came walking up to tell her she had 15 minutes to gather her things before escorting her out and changing the locks -- without any written warning beforehand. We are appealing the eviction, so we thought we had more time, but the lockout was allowed to proceed for technical legal reasons.

Keda is a native Portlander struggling with a debilitating case of long covid, she is a survivor of extreme trauma -- including a physical disability resulting from being randomly attacked at her apartments (resulting in a VAWA transfer) -- and now she and her pets (2 cats and 1 small dog) are homeless and have nowhere to go. She needs our help.

We have found a place for her to stay through Monday (3/14/22) and we're hoping we can find a spot in a shelter that will let her keep her animals until she can find a new place to live. Fortunately, she has a housing voucher but has struggled to find a place to rent (it must be used in Clackamas county) and it expires in early April.

Right now, we are focused on managing the present crisis of the eviction. Keda will have limited time to gather her things from her apartment (again, her home of 11 years) once the manager grants her access, but she has nowhere to put her furniture and belongings. So we need money for a moving truck and a storage unit. We are also hoping to raise enough to help with move-in costs like security deposit, and if we can't find a shelter -- money for a motel until she can get rehoused.

Every dollar will go to helping Aikeda restabilize her life after this traumatic event.

If you know of other places she can stay in the interim (good character and rental references available!) or if you are able to assist in any other way (moving help?), please contact helpKedaSurvive at gmail
