Hello, we are David and Cindy Wilson and our pup Keane. On 5/31, Keane slipped going up a few steps and ended up slipping/rupturing one of his discs. He showed signs of having trouble walking, and by the next morning, he could not stand or walk on his own. After a trip to his primary veterinarian, we decided to take him to a neurologist at the Sage Veterinary & Specialty Center in Campbell, CA. After being examined and suspecting that he indeed slipped a disc, they ordered an MRI to confirm the diagnosis, which it did, and Keane went right into surgery. The prognosis was that Keane had a 90% to 95% chance of walking again. The surgery went well, and he is back home with a full month of bed rest. We are seeing small improvements like moving his legs, resistance, and with help, he can balance and stand for short periods of time. We are excited to see progress but understand it can take 8 weeks or more before he can truly stand on his own. We intend to seek help via physical therapy to help speed up the healing process.

Fortunately, Dave is now working after being out of work for a year. Unfortunately, Cindy is now out of work but having to hold off finding a job to care for Keane full time. Thank goodness we had pet insurance but still will have a hefty medical bill (surgery), need therapy (not covered with insurance), follow-up care, supplies, and as we are full-time RVers, we need a ramp for in/out access.

I'm sure there are a lot of people that question why put all of that time, energy, and money for a 9-year-old dog. We would say because Keane is not just our dog, he's family. We didn't want to give up on our special boy. He's put in 24/7 of protecting us day and night for 9 years. Even if the FedEx, neighbors, other dogs & cats, and leaves were going to kill us... HE thought they were!
