Aloha, My name is KC Childs. The March 2026 Kona Low Storm damaged my home, vehicles, and the road to access my home. These funds will be used for urgent needs to help repair the damages and stay safe as I recover from these compounding losses.

I am a single mother of 2 young men who now live on their own about 45 minutes away. I live in Kanaio (a very rural/rugged part of Maui) down a 4wheel drive road that is rough on our vehicles. Before the recent storms, we were already struggling to maintain everything with the far drive and rising expenses and maintenance. These back to back storms have made an already difficult situation much worse.

Our house was already in need of maintenance before the storms, but we were making it work and repairing things a little at a time. This last storm was the most overwhelming. There were roof leaks and water pouring in from the side of the house, running down the wall, puddling on the upstairs floor boards and running into my son’s room downstairs. I had to run around in every direction trying to put buckets and rubbish cans to catch what water I could.

The storm water damaged the ceilings, walls and floor in multiple areas of my home. And reopened a leak that we had previously repaired in the roof. There is a lot of storm damage and so much mold in my home now. Two of our cars filled with water, and we are still trying to dry them out all the way to see if we can salvage them. Running storm water deepened the ruts in our 4wheel drive road to access my home and is making it difficult to drive on to access essentials needed to survive. The dirt surrounding my cement cesspool cap also washed away which left multiple openings around it.

I also came down with a bad cold right before the storm hit which has made all of this work to try to protect the house from further damages even harder on me.

There are significant home and vehicle damages from the storm that need to be fixed. Honestly I was overwhelmed before the storm, so now I feel kinda paralyzed by it all. I would be so thankful for any amount of help in bringing my life up to a functional level again! The financial support will be needed to try to repair the damages and have a safe home to live in.

It's very difficult to ask for help while I know so many are also struggling and am so grateful for the community help. We appreciate every dollar I can use to recover from this storm. (I'm not very tech-savvy, so a friend helped me set this up)
