Help KC Flynn Back On His Feet

Last week, I experienced something I never expected—a brutal slip and fall on the ice here in Finland that left me with a snapped femoral neck in my right leg at the hip. The pain was immediate and excruciating. I was rushed to the hospital by ambulance, and the next day, I underwent emergency surgery to repair my leg and hip with pins and a prosthetic plate. I spent four nights in the hospital, and now begins a long road to recovery.

For the next six weeks, I cannot bear any weight on my leg at all, followed by at least six more weeks of physical therapy. This has put me in a difficult position—not only physically, but financially. Since my Finnish residency is still being processed, I am not yet covered under the national healthcare system, meaning I am personally responsible for the medical bills and other expenses that are quickly adding up. This was not in the budget when we came to Finland to put the finishing touches on my wife Lisa’s PhD journey.

Right now, I owe $8,000 to the hospital (would’ve been $80k in USA) and that doesn’t include the ongoing costs of physical therapy, Uber rides to medical appointments, grocery delivery, and even help with snow removal—all of which I will need while I am immobile and healing.

I’ve always been the type of person who struggles to ask for help, but right now, I find myself in a situation where I need support. I am humbly asking for $12,000 to help cover these costs and allow me to focus on recovering without the stress of mounting bills.
