My boyfriend KC has been through an incredibly tough journey with his health. It all started with several hospitalizations and countless doctor visits, but no one could give us answers. Eventually, KC was transported from our local hospital in Brainerd, MN, to Duluth, and after a week there, he was referred to specialists at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Since June 2025, we've made four trips to Mayo Clinic, each time hoping for answers and a path forward. The most recent visit lasted a week and brought devastating news: KC needs a liver transplant. He was diagnosed with PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis), a rare disease that scars the bile ducts, and CCA (Cholangiocarcinoma), a rare cancer of the bile ducts. Neither of us drink, and this diagnosis came as a complete shock. Now, KC faces three weeks of chemotherapy and a long stay at the transplant house, followed by four to five weeks of recovery after the transplant. We must remain close to Mayo Clinic for his best chance at a longer life. The costs of medical care, travel, gas, and lodging are overwhelming. We've done everything we can to manage on our own, but our resources are stretched to the limit. I have never been one to ask for help, but this is a time when we truly need an army behind us.
