Hello and thank you to anyone who clicked on our fundraiser today. If you have found yourself here, there is a good chance you know about our situation. If not, this is our long story made short (as possible):
My name is Lily and this is my boy, Kayn. I am a 21-year-old college student and starving artist in Missouri. Kayn is a 5-year-old German Shepherd with hip dysplasia.
I adopted Kayn the summer of 2019 and he has been my most loyal and loving friend ever since. He was entrusted to me by a friend who was in a difficult situation and could not afford to care for him.
Kayn’s hips are severely displaced and the joints connecting his femur and his pelvis are underdeveloped, causing bone on bone contact, intense pain, degeneration, and a serious lack of mobility.
A veterinarian I work for told me the fact that he is still walking is impressive. He has tolerated this pain since he was a puppy. He now takes daily medications to moderate the pain as much as possible.
I was referred to the small animal hospital at the University of Missouri, where we got him updated x-rays and determined that the best possible option for him would be a femoral head and neck excision (FHNE). This means the head and neck of his femur will be removed and scar tissue will form in place of a joint.
After almost 3 years of preparing, we have gotten ourselves this far, but still have only been able to save a small fraction of what this surgery will cost us.
We do not have a scheduled surgery date yet, but I will keep updates posted.
It will happen regardless of the donations we receive.
Absolutely anything friends and family are willing to donate would be extremely helpful and be put toward the cost of Kayn’s surgery, as well as the extensive aftercare, medicines, follow-up exams, travel expenses, etc.
This kid means the whole world to me and I have been dead-set on taking his pain away since the day I met him.
