My beautiful daughter, Kaylyn, had her first liver transplant at just 18 months old due to a virus that attacked her liver. Fast forward 28 years, our family is yet again facing liver failure. My sweet Kaylyn has been so strong her whole life, living with her medical condition, beating the odds every single time, staying strong, keeping faith and God first, raising her two beautiful girls who are a perfect reflection of her sweet, soft, and caring self. She has been married to her wonderful, hardworking, and caring husband for over 12 years. Although we have known for some time this day would come, no one can ever be 100% ready for what this family is about to go through. Transplant patients must stay around their transplant hospital for 3 to 6 weeks before they can go home after being transplanted. This is of the utmost importance due to possible complications and rejection and things like this. Transplant patients are also required to have a full-time caretaker with them during this time. My daughter's husband and I are both going to split these responsibilities and make sure our girl gets all of the care she needs, and we will be at her bedside, taking her to follow-up appointments and assisting her 24/7. With this commitment comes the financial strain, missing 3 to 6 weeks of work, unpaid copays, living accommodations, gas money, food, and anything else that may be needed. The stress of waiting to get a liver, not rejecting it, not having infections, and no complications is enough of a worry without having all the financial worries also. We need help!!! When you ask Kaylyn what she wants, she will say, I want to be healthy, I want to raise my girls, I want my husband not to have to take care of everything, I just need my life back. Won't you please help lessen the burden for this loving family.
