Hi, my name is Lillieth, and I am fundraising for 11-year-old Kaylee and her family. Kaylee was a healthy, happy 11-year-old girl up until two weeks ago. Then, one day, after coming home from school, her mother noticed that Kaylee's eyes had turned yellow. Mom took Kaylee to her doctor, who admitted Kaylee into the hospital. After testing, she was diagnosed with aplastic anemia - a rare condition in which the body stops producing enough new blood cells.

 

Aplastic anemia develops as a result of bone marrow damage. Symptoms may develop slowly or suddenly. Fatigue, frequent infections, rapid heart rate, and bleeding may occur. Treatment can include medications, blood transfusions, and stem-cell transplants if necessary. Aplastic anemia is a life-threatening condition with very high death rates (about 70% within one year) if untreated.

 

Right now, Kaylee is in dire need of a bone marrow transplant. A bone marrow transplant is a procedure that infuses healthy blood-forming stem cells into your body to replace your damaged or diseased bone marrow. A bone marrow transplant is also called a stem cell transplant.

 

Her survival rate is minimal if Kaylee does not get a bone marrow transplant. Her family members have been tested and are waiting to see if any of them are a match.

 

In addition, Kaylee's liver is being affected. A biopsy will be done to see what treatment might be available.

 

Kaylee's mom has to stay with Kaylee at the hospital, so she cannot work. Kaylee's father works very hard, so he doesn't have much time to spend with her.

 

The funds will be used to pay Kaylee's medical bills and help mom with transportation and other daily living expenses.
