In the early hours of Thanksgiving Day, my sister Kaylee was woken by a firefighter banging on her door, urging her to evacuate immediately. There was a fire in one of the apartments in the building she lives in- the apartment right next to hers. She grabbed her daughter, Scarlett, and our other niece and nephew who were spending the night with them, and ran through a smoke-filled building to safety. We are so grateful that everyone made it out unharmed, and we thank God for protecting them. But the fire took everything Kaylee and Scarlett owned—their home, their clothes, and all the little things that made their apartment a safe haven. There were things in that apartment that belong to Kaylee’s daughter in Heaven, Alayna, that we may never get back. Just so devastating on so many levels.
Kaylee is one of the most selfless people I know. As a full-time single mom, she has worked incredibly hard to provide a loving home for Scarlett, and she’s always the first to help others, even when she has little herself. She has overcome so much, including the loss of a child, and fought so many battles to get to where she is.
Losing everything right at the start of the holiday season is devastating, especially with no outside financial support. The Red Cross has provided a short-term place to stay, but Kaylee and Scarlett need help to find a new home and start over.
On behalf of Kaylee, Scarlett, and our family, I prayerfully ask for your support. Your donation will help them secure housing, replace essentials, and begin to rebuild their lives. Thank you for your kindness, your generosity, and for joining us in prayer for Kaylee and Letty(Scarlett) during this time!
