Dear friends, family, and whomever may come across this,
I'm reaching out with a heavy heart to share that my beautiful baby Kaylee has been battling with a tough rare condition called Topical Steroid Withdrawal (TSW) for over 5 months.
TSW is caused by a terrible side effect of topical steroids used to treat eczema and other skin conditions. They are often recklessly over-prescribed by dermatologists to anyone with minor rashes, even to children as young as infants. Despite the severe side effects of these medications, many doctors are largely unaware of TSW and ultimately some people battling TSW can suffer endlessly for years on end. Some eventually lose hope and some never make it out of TSW. Symptoms of TSW can be debilitating, it is a full body, bright red, burning, dry, flaking, oozing skin that itches non-stop. Other severe symptoms include insomnia, muscle spasms, nerve pain, loss of thermoregulation, hair loss, depression, and more. It can become so debilitating that many become unable to work and become reliant on family for care and support. Unfortunately, there is no cure for TSW and it is sadly understudied by medical science, with no standard treatment. With no quick fix or universal treatment many sufferers, like Kaylee, endure immense pain and uncertainty.
Despite it all, Kaylee’s resilience shows through. She is a ray of sunshine, positive, and the sweetest soul who lights up any room with her electric personality. As her mother, watching her navigate elementary school amidst the sleepless painful nights and struggles has been both heartbreaking and inspiring.
After constant search, I found a treatment: Cold Atmospheric Plasma therapy. It is an emerging technology used in the medical field to treat wounds on the skin by stimulating growth factor production in the skin cells. It has many promising applications, including treating topical steroid withdrawal. The recovery process throughout treatment can be very physically taxing on the body, but it can help TSW sufferers get their health and life back. The longest-running, most experienced, and most cost-effective clinic is located in Bangkok, Thailand. I was able to contact with the director of the clinic as well as several current and former patients, all of whom have been incredibly positive and hopeful that with the treatment, Kaylee will recover from TSW.
This is where I would greatly appreciate your support.
While making the arrangements and traveling to Thailand so Kaylee can be treated over the next few months, the travel, treatment, and accommodation bills have and are quickly adding up. I’m aiming to raise $10,000 to cover the costs of 4-6 months. Your support—whether big or small—will make a world of difference in her journey towards recovery and getting her health and little life back.
I'm hopeful that Kaylee will go back to loving herself and doing the things that she loves like dancing, playing, and being the beautiful soul that she is. With your kindness, my baby will have a chance to every possibility of getting better.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for being part of Kaylee's story and helping us fight for her health and happiness. <3
