I am sharing the story of my dear friend, Kayle, and her mom, Carmen. These two women have been fighting one of the hardest battles of their lives and I am hoping you can help in supporting them where possible. 

Carmen was diagnosed with cancer in June and began radiation in August. Due to the harshness of radiation, unfortunately she was very weak. Eventually, we learned of a large blood clot sitting in her lungs. On September 7th, she was life flighted from the ER, and had an 11 day hospital stay. After the week and a half in the hospital, the next steps were 2 weeks of inpatient rehab to learn how to walk again and gain mobility. It wasn’t until October 1st when she could come home. 

Carmen is still in recovery that we can anticipate to be extremely lengthy. Her daughter, our friend, Kayle is acting as the sole caregiver and will be taking a leave of absence from work to take care of her mom. Kayle is currently the sole provider of the house as Carmen is no longer able to work. Unfortunately, there is no timeline for funds through disability to come through, and they are simply playing a waiting game. As we can imagine, this is not an easy time to live through. 

Even when disability kicks in, due to Kayle’s leave of absence to care for her mom, medical bills and living expenses are not feasible. These two women are some of the greatest supports and kindest souls who will do anything for their village. Medical expenses are estimated to be around $100k and monthly living expenses are estimated to be around $5.5K.

These two women have been through it, and refuse to not be a part of the villages for their loved ones. Now, it is our turn as their village to rally around them with love and support during this time.
