Hi, my name is Kaylan Cardwell. I’m 29 years old and recently received a diagnosis that turned my world upside down: colon cancer. I’ve always been healthy and never expected to face something like this at my age. What started as a routine colonoscopy for what I thought were minor issues led to the discovery of a 5cm mass in my colon. Since then, everything has moved quickly, and I’m now scheduled for surgery at The Ohio State University on July 23 to remove the tumor.
As a medical assistant for a dermatologist, I’m used to helping others through their health journeys. Now, I find myself on the other side, needing support. My job doesn’t offer short-term disability, so I’ll be without income for at least six weeks while I recover from surgery. On top of that, my treatments and surgery are 90 minutes away from home, which means extra travel and gas expenses. I’m grateful to have an amazing support system of family and friends, but the financial strain is more than we can manage alone.
The funds raised will help cover my rent, medical bills, groceries, travel expenses, and other essential costs during my recovery. I’m determined to fight this with everything I have, and your support—whether through a donation or by sharing my story—will make a real difference. Thank you for standing with me as I take on this challenge.
