Hello everyone,

My name is Kayla Smith. I was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC. I recently got my master's degree in Accounting from UNC Greensboro in May. My career goal is to become a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and be an auditor.

The reason for this post is that I am currently looking for an entry-level accounting job in the Triad, and I am having a hard time getting one. I did have a job as a cashier at a retail store while I was attending school. I had to resign due to an unhealthy work environment in late May. Since then, I have been unemployed and actively looking for a job. At the time, I had some money to pay the bills and things like that. Now, I am seeing that I am going to be out of money soon. I have been taking care of my dad, who has Parkinson's disease, while I was attending grad school. I became a full-time caregiver to my dad since my mom passed away from bone cancer in October 2025. It was stressful taking care of my dad, going to grad school, and working. I have family members who are willing to help me out with the adjustment. I am grateful for that because I don't like interruptions in my routines since I am autistic. Now that I am unemployed, I am trying my best to find an accounting job in my area. It seems like most accounting jobs require experience, and I am new to the accounting world and just graduated from grad school. I am frustrated that I am unable to get an accounting job. I thought that I could get an accounting job after college, but I was wrong. I did not know that accounting jobs take a long process. I really need the income now, and it is frustrating. I have bills to pay, whatever they are: my phone bill, rent, groceries, etc. I need to help Dad with the bills. I feel like crap because I do not have the money due to my last job because of the manager being disrespectful toward me. I reported the manager's behavior to HR and the District Manager. I hope I can find a job really soon. I do not want to be out of money.
