In August of 2025, I received an offer for ongoing work that had the potential to be genuinely life-changing. Being the opportunist that I am, I accepted and re-oriented my life around this decision - including making a last-minute pivot into a new home in the Bay Area, taking on associated moving expenses, and continuing to pay Bay Area rent (despite feeling ready to leave for months and having no other reason to stay). I was eager to lean into an era of stability and support that has thus far eluded me in life.

The first month, I performed my work duties in good faith, under the impression that I would be duly compensated at the end of the pay period. Unfortunately, I started to see through the cracks and realized the situation was not as stable as I'd hoped. I also witnessed unsavory and unsafe behavior behind the scenes, and I made the choice to bow out.

One month after payment was expected to arrive, I was handed a check for partial payment that ultimately bounced... and weeks later, another partial payment was issued, but mailed to the wrong address. I have been left scrambling to pick up the pieces, which has placed a major strain on my energy, finances, and relationships.

Long story short: I'm doing my due diligence to retrieve payment for the work that I completed, and will be pursuing legal action. In the meantime, I will be singing, pet-sitting, and selling unnecessary possessions to make ends meet until my housing agreement ends in 3 weeks. I'll spend the holidays with my family, and after that, my plans are up in the air. I have ideas and options I'd like to explore for 2026, but right now, my main priorities are showing up for my commitments and getting back on my feet.
