Our daughter Kayla has been diagnosed with retinal vasculitis in her right eye — a serious form of uveitis and ocular inflammatory disease. This is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes inflammation inside the eye and carries a very real risk of permanent vision loss.

Uveitis is not something that simply “goes away.” It’s complex, aggressive, and requires ongoing care with a uveitis specialist. Kayla’s treatment involves systemic immunosuppression, intensive medication monitoring, and constant coordination between providers to try to control the inflammation before it causes irreversible damage.

She initially began treatment with Humira, but unfortunately it has not been effective. She is now undergoing monthly infusions in an effort to preserve as much of her vision as possible. These treatments are currently the only thing standing between her and further vision loss.

On top of this, Kayla recently had to undergo surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids due to severe, ongoing infections — complications that are especially concerning while on immunosuppressive therapy.

Even with health insurance, the financial burden has been overwhelming. The medication alone costs approximately $1,000 per treatment, and this does not include specialist visits, labs, imaging, and additional care. While she has received some support from family and her employer, the medical bills continue to grow — and this is likely to be a lifelong condition requiring continued treatment.

We are asking for help to ease some of this financial pressure so Kayla can focus on what truly matters: protecting her vision and her health. Reducing the stress of mounting medical bills will allow her to continue the treatments she desperately needs without the added fear of falling behind financially.
