Help Kayla get soaring to Flight School

Donation protected
When Kayla was 13, in the autumn of 2021, she came home from a job fair event at school just gleaming and announced to her Grandma and I that she knew what she wanted to do for a career: "I want to be a pilot!" She joined air cadets shortly after, in the last few months of varying covid protocols. She has experienced the thrill of being booked to go in the glider and then the disappointment of being grounded due to weather, twice! She registered to attend the Advanced Aviation training in Cold Lake CTC for summer 2023, but was on a wait list and never got the call to go. Taking matters into her own hands by this point to do something involving aviation before senior high starts, Kayla has met several very kind local pilots, joined a flying club, been out flying & helping a bit, and learning a lot, all while looking for employment so that she can start flight school. However, she is finding that jobs she can get to either arent hiring or will only hire age 16 and up: she is 15. Im not able to contribute right now as Id hoped, so after much consideration, we are reaching out to you for help to get her rolling on the path to get her pilots licence.

Kayla has kindly been gifted some supplies by her wonderful mentor to help support her training and future flights, but she will also need to purchase at least the following:
  • log books, updated training manuals ($160+),
  • ground school lessons ($250-500),
  • radio operator course for aviation ($75),
  • minimum 20hrs, but likely much more, flight instruction on Cessna 150 ( $240+/hr) plus minimum 5hrs solo flight ($175+/hr)
  • Class 3-4 medical
  • and more

The first phase of her plan would cost at least $1500 which will include purchasing of the rest of her books, attending ground school, making a trip to complete the Class 3 medical, and getting at least 3 hours flight instruction while the weather is decent, which involves out of town trips to meet with an instructor, and do more as she can. She's commited to see this through and perhaps obtain her recreational pilot permit/licence before she gets her drivers licence! This is very important and exciting for her.

The smallest donation is so gratefully appreciated. The funds will go directly to Kayla's account which is dedicated solely to her aviation training. We will provide regular updates, and maybe one day she will welcome you aboard a flight! So exciting! Thank you!
