Hi everyone,

My name is Kayla, and I’m reaching out because I’m trying to survive the impossible.

On June 9, 2025, I lost my partner Kyle to suicide. He was my boyfriend, my safe place, and yes, like many real relationships, things weren’t always perfect. But we loved each other in the middle of all the broken pieces. Since losing him, I’ve been left completely on my own — emotionally, financially, and physically — with only our three cats, who are grieving just as much as I am.

I’ve never experienced the death of someone I was this close to. I didn’t grow up with much support. I don’t have family to fall back on. I’ve battled lifelong depression, and in the past year, I also developed seizures from a traumatic brain injury related to domestic violence. I’m disabled — mentally, emotionally, and physically. I’m doing the work: I’m in therapy multiple times a week, applying for disability with the help of a Medicaid lawyer, and receiving temporary rental support from the YWCA of Richmond. But all of that will end in September. And after that… I have nowhere to go.

I don’t want pity. I want safety. I want a small home where my cats and I can breathe. I’m not asking for luxury — I’ve found a modest mobile home for sale for $11,000, with lot rent around $330/month. If I could raise enough to buy it and cover rent for a little while, it would mean a roof over our heads that no one could take away. A space that is ours. That’s what this fundraiser is for.

The goal is $20,000 — not because I expect anyone to fix everything for me, but because that’s enough to:

• Purchase the mobile home outright
• Cover lot rent for a while as I wait for disability
• Keep utilities on and food in the house
• Give my ESA cats and I a fighting chance

I know it’s a big ask from a stranger. But I’m doing everything I can. I’ve lost the person I relied on, and I’ve lost the structure of what little life I had. But I’m still here — trying.

Showing up. Scooping litter boxes. Feeding the babies. Going to therapy. And trying not to disappear.

Even $1 helps. A share helps. A kind comment helps. If you’ve read this far, thank you. If you donate — from the bottom of my broken heart, thank you. Truly.

— Kayla
