Hi, My name is Geoff and I am fundraising for the Oakley family.

On November 3rd Shirley Oakley fell and severely broker her hip. Shirley received a partial hip replacement November 5th & is now in the earliest stages of recovery in the hospital. She is the primary care giver to her husband Sydney who is suffering from vascular parkinsons disease, dementia and requires 24 hour care. Sydney is now also in the hospital after falling early in the morning on November 6th.

Shirley will be in the hospital for weeks recovering from her hip surgery and her recovery time could take up to a full year before she will be fully mobile. During this time their only daughter Kayla & I will be working to find a care facility for Sydney. His condition is deteriorating & requires more care than Kayla and our family are able to provide. Sydney needs an immediate solution to have the care he needs while Shirley recovers from her hip surgery & is able to return home and fully heal from her injuries.

Public care homes are overrun & have a waiting list of up to five years. Private homes are upwards of $10000 per month depending on availability. We are currently working with the York social services for a public/ private option that is more financially feasible but this solution will take time.

Shirley & Sydney are the best kind of people. They have been dealt an extremely significant blow to their well being, safety & quality of life.

Yours support will make an immeasurable difference in their quality of life as well as alleviate much of the financial burdens Kayla & our family we be shouldered with as this situation unfolds.

Asking this of our friends and family is not something we take lightly as we feel the great responsibility as we care for our loved ones.

Kayla has always been the one giving — creating spaces, lifting others, and helping people feel at home through music. Now, it’s our turn to give back to her, in whatever way we can. Together, we can help her continue caring for her parent without losing the stability and sense of belonging she’s helped build for so many.
