Help with Kayla and Michael's Hospital Stay

Donation protected
Last week, Kayla and Michael were packing and getting ready for their family beach trip and the next was a hospital admission that took them to Texas Childrens Hospital in Houston with pregnancy complications. Kayla is 25 weeks pregnant with their 2nd child whose name will be Mabry Kate. The Doctors there would love for Kayla to make it to 34 weeks which would mean another 9 weeks to go until delivery. There are so many things that are not known at this point but, any donation will be used for travel and whatever else is needed for their stay.

Thank you so much for supporting their family

Today I am 25 weeks pregnant. Close family and friends may already know that we have been experiencing pregnancy complications with 3 different hospital admissions over the past few weeks. Without going into detail, we are being flown to Texas Children’s hospital for more extensive testing and specialized procedures. This is not the update I wanted to give but we need all of our prayer warriors more than ever. Especially pray for our Mabry Kate.

Long overdue update.
Sorry to keep everyone waiting, it’s been a whirlwind the past few days. I have read everyone’s sweet messages and we appreciate everyone’s prayers. This is just the easiest way to update everyone.
June 6th I started experiencing some minor bleeding. After a few scans and exams, they found a small marginal sinus separation(where a portion of my placenta detached from the wall) there was a small hematoma so bleeding was expected the next week or so and I was put on light bedrest. *Note-nothing abnormal was seen during baby girls scans. Fast forward to June 12- I started experiencing new symptoms that night. Fever, chills, flushed, and a headache. The next day June 13th I just knew something wasn’t right and I noticed a decrease in fetal movement. I scheduled an u/s appointment mainly just for peace of mind. This is where our nightmare truly began. On the u/s they saw that Mabry had fluid collecting in the ventricles of her brain and abdomen (ascites). We were immediately admitted and Baptist wasted no time getting Dr. Hogg the Maternal fetal medicine specialist in to see me and do a more in depth diagnostic scan. During that scan they Doppler Mabrys MCA’s (middle cerebral arteries) to see how fast the blood is traveling through her brain. (It was elevated) Therefore, Dr. Hogg believed Mabry is critically anemic and is battling some type of infection. At the bedside, he performed an amniocentesis and sent samples of the amniotic fluid. *The only problem is-the only lab who does this type of extensive testing is in California and could take up to 10 days to result.* We didn’t have time to wait because anemia can be fatal quickly. That night they told us we need to go home and pack and book the earliest flight to Houston-Texas Childrens hospital. Here, the plan was to perform a cordocentesis where they take blood from the umbilical cord, test to see if she’s anemic and do a transfusion if so. HOWEVER, once we got here I was still running a low grade fever with chills and my abdomen was tender after our flight. Now, they were concerned about me and if I may be developing some type of infection in my uterus. The procedure would be risky to me if that were the case. So we decided to wait it out overnight-running labs every 4 hours to make sure my white count wasn’t climbing. (Upon arrival it was elevated compared to the labs in Jackson.) So the plan was to do the transfusion in the morning if my labs were ok.
June 15th-the next morning. I noticed some leakage that wasn’t happening before. They performed another u/s and discovered my membrane had ruptured. So an already complicated issue just became even worse. BUT GOD and the power of y’all’s prayers, the blood flow through her MCA’s had actually improved overnight! We’re praying that Mabry is trying her best to fight whatever infection this is and her fluid levels continue to improve. On the other hand, we will be in Houston until we deliver. They HOPE to get me to 34 weeks but that’s very optimistic considering our complex case. Our next u/s is scheduled for Tuesday. Pray for healing and baby girl continues to fight this. In the meantime, hopefully we will find an answer to what type of infection this is and hopefully start treatment (if it’s treatable.) Sorry this is so long, we have been seen by so many different teams with so much information- I tried my best to narrow it down. Please continue to pray for us and Mabry Kate.
