Help Kayla and family through the loss of her baby Cassia
Donation protected
My name is Ruthann and I'm starting this gofund me on behalf of Kayla to help offset costs relating to the unexpected and untimely death of her daughter Cassia.
Given Cassias tender age Life insurance had not been purchased. The funds received will go towards end of life costs, offset any medical costs and day to day expenses while the family takes some time to grieve.
Cassia Grace was born on 9/1/24 via emergency C-section at only 32 weeks gestation. Weighing just 4 pounds. She was in fetal distress and doctors couldn't find a heartbeat which was the cause of the emergency C-section. Upon birth they had to work on getting her to cry.
Once they got her stable she was placed in the NICU. While in NICU she was on a feeding tube and experienced cardiac events called bradycardia and sleep apnea. Over the course of 3 weeks Cassia eventually was able to take bottles on her own but continued to have cardiac events.
The NICU titrated her down to the NICU annex for more stable babies and waited for her to go 48 hours without a cardiac event. Despite initially being told Cassia wouldn't be discharged until close to her due date which was 10/25/24 Dr's and the hospital felt Cassia was ready to go home because she hadnt had a Cardiac episode in 48 hours. She was released on 9/23/24 without any type of monitoring. Without having an mri, heart ultrasound or CAT scan done to get a visual on her heart and without ever reaching 5 pounds of weight. Mom was given instructions on safe sleep and told the Cassia would be ok as long as any future cardiac episodes resolved themselves quickly.
Cassia went home to her big Brother Eli who is 2 and big Sister Sophia who is 3. Sophia was in love with her baby sister and its all should could talk about to anyone. Over the next few days Cassia was seen to have a condition called perioral cyanosis and a few bradycardia episodes. She was taken to her pediatrician on 9/25/24 and given a referral for a cardiologist. But otherwise looked good.
At 3 am on 9/27/24 at just 25 days old she would go to be with her great great grandpa and Uncle Louie in heaven. Mom woke up to check on her and found her not breathing. Despite attempts from mom, paramedics and the staff at saint Christopher's she was unable to be revived.
Cassias' passing has left an unimaginable void in the lives and hearts of so many. Especially for her mother Kayla and her siblings.
If you have the ability to help I thank you from the bottom of my heart on behalf of all our families. If you have any questions feel free to contact me.
