For over a month, Kaya endured severe headaches, neck pain, and dizziness that doctors couldn’t explain. After several visits and worsening symptoms, a CT scan in late October finally revealed a 10 cm arachnoid cyst and fluid pressing against her cerebellum — a serious condition that required immediate surgery. Within hours, she was admitted to Strong Memorial Hospital and underwent an emergency craniotomy and a drain to be inserted to relieve the pressure and drain the fluid.
The surgery saved her life, but recovery has been long and challenging. Kaya had to have part of her hair shaved for the operation, and she continues to deal with pain, fatigue, and mobility limitations as she heals. She has been hospitalized since October 22, focusing on recovery one day at a time.
Before this crisis, Kaya had been searching for a new job while finishing her degree at SUNY Brockport. The sudden hospitalization forced her to turn down job interviews, pause schoolwork, and put her plans on hold indefinitely. The loss of income, combined with medical costs and living expenses, has created an overwhelming financial strain on her and her family.
Funds raised will go directly toward medical bills, rent, recovery costs, a wig to help her regain confidence as her hair grows back, and basic living expenses while she continues to heal and rebuild stability.
