Hi kind friends! Kaya here, popping on with an aid request as I embark on a healing and recovery process. On 6/15, I had an accident at a climbing gym where I broke my fibula and cracked my tibia. I had to get an emergency surgery the following day to insert a metal rod into the hollow part of my tibia to stabilize my fibula mending. As I reach the two week mark post-surgery, I am on bed rest with very minimal movement and this will continue to be the trend for the next few weeks, as I slowly begin to relearn how to place weight on and walk on my leg again. Due to the movement restrictions I have, this causes me to be out of work for at least 6 weeks, likely longer given that I work a gardening and manual labor based job. This healing process is of course dependent on the individual but it is likely to take around 3 months for me to be able to be fully weight bearing on this leg. While it feels deeply uncomfortable for me to ask for help, I am reaching out to my community requesting support, whether that is sharing this call for aid or on a financial level. Though I am very fortunate to have health insurance for the first time in a long time, The costs of an ambulance and meeting my deductible are huge expenses for someone already living paycheck to paycheck- these costs will likely reach approx $5,000. Along with this, as I will be out of work for at least 6 weeks and currently have higher monthly expenses due to needs for grocery delivery and prepared foods as I’m unable to cook, I am finding myself in need of support in paying my bills and meeting my basic needs to feed and heal my body throughout recovery. Anything you may be able to offer support with would help deeply and I carry so much gratitude for you reading, sharing and caring. Much love
Kaya
