Hi there! I'm Kay, a nonbinary trans person. I've been out as nonbinary socially in varying degrees for about seven years, and recently have begun pursuing physical transition to help alleviate the gender dysphoria I experience in my everyday life. In June 2021, I was approved for top surgery, which I have been hoping to pursue for years. My surgery is scheduled for November 2, 2021.
I'm very lucky to have insurance that will cover much the cost of my upcoming surgery. However, my insurance company considers the process to be two procedures, and will only cover one of them; the second procedure, although strongly recommended by my surgeon to achieve the desired result, is considered cosmetic by the insurance company and therefore will not be covered. In budgeting for my surgery, I made sure I would be able to cover the copay for the procedure, but unfortunately I had not budgeted for a second procedure entirely uncovered by insurance.
I am asking for help offsetting the cost of the second procedure so I can achieve the desired result in one go and greatly reduce the risk of requiring a second surgery on top of this first one sometime in the future. Without this second procedure, my surgeon will not be able to create an entirely masculine-appearing chest, which is the goal of the surgery in the first place.
All funds from this effort will go to covering the cost of my surgery. I appreciate the help and generosity from anyone who is moved to give, or to share this fundraiser.
