Seventeen year-old Kay Lopez (they/them) is from a small city in northern Ecuador where Kay lives with their single mom, Silvia. Kay did so well in school that they earned a partial scholarship to attend United World College in Las Vegas, NM. Kay is in their first year of the two-year program at UWC. You may think that all the students at UWC are wealthy, but you'd be surprised to learn that more than 65% of these international students are on scholarship and, like Kay, come from low-income families.
Gayle and Judith hosted Kay over Thanksgiving and part of Christmas breaks in 2022.
Since the scholarship only covers tuition and room and board, Kay needs help with the cost of a round-trip airline ticket to Ecuador, to be able to go home and help their mother during the summer months. Your contribution will make it possible for Kay to spend the summer in Ecuador, and return in August to complete the second year at United World College.
We feel that two years is too long for a seventeen-year-old to be separated from their family.
We need to raise $1,500 for the roundtrip ticket plus other small expenses. Any amount you can spare toward this goal would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance for your generosity!
