Help Kay Delong Stay Home and Fight ALS
Donation protected
In June of 2023, Kay Delong, was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a relentless and unforgiving disease that affects the nervous system, robbing individuals of their ability to move, speak, and ultimately, breathe. Most people with ALS are given 2-5 years to live after their diagnosis, and there is no known cause or cure for the disease. This disease has completely turned the entire family’s world upside down.
Since being diagnosed, Kay has been to specialists and tried therapies, medical trials, medications, and spiritual healings, but her condition has deteriorated significantly. In January, 6 months after being diagnosed, she had to give up her career as a realtor; a career that she loved and that made her very happy. She has also had to gradually give up her autonomy and most of the things that she enjoyed prior to her diagnosis. Despite this, she continues doing therapies and treatments meant to maintain and slow the progression of the disease.
Our family would like to keep Kay living in the comfort of her home, but the cost of ALS treatment and 24 hour care is overwhelming, and it's taking a toll on our family both emotionally and financially. From medical bills to specialized equipment to home modifications to caregivers, the expenses are mounting quickly and seem never ending. We also need to purchase a wheelchair van. Kay’s caregiving schedule has been a rotation between her kids and a handful other relatives to save money on caregivers, but it is taking it’s toll and not sustainable long term.
For these reasons, we are reaching out to family, friends and our community asking for your support. The financial burden from losing her job and limited savings, combined with her medical and care needs, Kay's expenses are quickly becoming unmanageable. Your generosity and kindness will not only provide financial assistance but also serve as a source of strength and hope to Kay and her family during this difficult time.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts and we would be grateful if you could share this post with others. Please do not contact Kay directly and leave any comments/well wishes on this page. We will update as much as possible.
