Kay is a wife and homeschooling mother of four children. In September 2017, she was diagnosed with stage III invasive lobular breast cancer.  This was quite a shock, as it was missed by three annual mammograms. Lobular breast cancer is notoriously difficult to see on imaging because it usually grows in single file lines or a web like structure instead of of a cohesive lump.  Due to this growth pattern, lobular breast cancer often evades early detection by mammograms and ultrasounds.

Kay's cancer diagnosis was a terrible blow, especially since it came after four years of numerous health challenges including urgent spinal surgery, chronic vertigo, and protracted spinal/leg pain. She does have health insurance but it does not cover all treatment costs. Funds raised on this page will pay for any medical expenses not covered by insurance and will relieve the financial burden of the many incidental costs that cancer treatment brings.
