Arjuna Animal Welfare Foundation in Mysore, India, led by Kavya Lagali, is dedicated to rescuing abandoned dogs, cats, and cows—especially those who have suffered cruelty, neglect, and exploitation. Many of the animals who come to the shelter are survivors of illegal backyard breeding operations, repeated forced pregnancies, medical neglect, and severe abuse. When they are no longer 'profitable' or when medical expenses become too high and impact their profits, they are kicked out onto the streets—sick, injured, frightened, and betrayed. Kavya and her team step in where others walk away, intervening in cruelty and abuse cases, pursuing legal action against offenders, and providing emergency medical treatment, vaccinations, and sterilization. They rehabilitate emotionally traumatized animals who have lost trust in humans and offer lifelong sanctuary to senior and disabled animals who cannot be adopted.

Fighting animal cruelty in India is especially challenging. While Kavya and her team work tirelessly to file cases against abusers, enforcement and penalties remain weak. Still, they continue to stand up for those who have no voice. As their rescue efforts grew, so did the number of animals in their care. Many cannot be released back onto the streets. Many are too old, disabled, or emotionally traumatized to survive without protection. Kavya had no choice but to build a permanent shelter, taking a bank loan to construct two shelter sections so these animals would have a safe place to heal. This decision was necessary—but it has placed enormous financial pressure on the small organization. Now, rescues are increasing, but space and funding are limited.

Donated funds will be used to build kennels, provide medical assistance and an operation room for spay/neuter services, install roofing, drainage, security cabin and cameras, purchase food, medicines, supply water, and cover ongoing care for rescued animals. Your donation will directly help animals like a mother dog discarded after years of forced breeding, a pet abandoned because medical treatment became 'too expensive,' a senior cow left to starve after she stopped producing milk, and a disabled dog who simply needs a safe place for the rest of her life. No contribution is too small. Even a modest donation from the U.S. can create significant impact in India by covering vaccinations, sterilization procedures, emergency surgeries, shelter construction materials, nutritious food supplies, and ongoing medical treatment.
