Hi! It’s me, Kavonna. I’m excited to share I’m running The Speed Project (TSP) LA to Vegas, as a solo runner. Yes, all 350+ miles on foot! I’m beyond honored to represent all the women runners that are 40+, Black women, and those people that don’t fit into the stereotypes of what endurance athletes look like. I’m a Texas native living in Compton, and I get to run the streets of Compton and remind people that running locally is for everyone. There have been only 2 Black women to accomplish this and I’m honored to have their steps light me way.

Last year, I was able to create THIQUE, an all-female run team with 95% of the team members never having competed in the ultra field. We showed up for Women of Color. It was an amazing feat!

This year I’m running solo for myself and to showcase that this race isn’t just about covering the miles; it’s about pushing beyond limits, breaking down barriers, and proving that strength comes in all forms. For me, participating in this race is not just about personal achievement—it’s also about claiming space and freedom that hasn’t always been guaranteed to people who look like me. As a Black woman, I’m committed to showing that no matter your shape, age, or background, you belong in this space.

But I can’t do it alone—ultra marathons come with significant costs, from gear and nutrition to travel, fees, and logistics. That’s why I’m reaching out for your support. This race is ran solo, with the support of the community from LA to Texas to Atlanta to DC. Every contribution will go directly toward making this race possible for me. It will ensure my crew and I will arrive safely. Your support means more than just helping me cross the finish line; it’s about uplifting representation in the ultra-running community and showing that we can break boundaries and redefine what’s possible.
