Meet Kavi! This sweet girl has been diagnosed with patella luxation, a knee condition that is causing her significant pain and making it difficult for her to move comfortably. Without surgery, her condition will continue to affect her mobility and quality of life.

Kavi’s story began far from home—she was found as a stray on a beach in Puerto Rico. Thanks to the compassion and dedication of the Blue Sky Satos rescue group, she was safely brought to Colorado for a chance at a better life.

Our connection to Kavi feels like it was meant to be. We had been searching for a rescue dog to adopt for weeks but hadn’t found the right fit. Then, by chance, we met Kavi while hiking at Garden of the Gods—her amazing foster mom just happened to be there at the same time! Earlier that day, we had visited Pikes Peak, and being so close to the incredible mountains made the moment feel even more special. We knew this meeting wasn’t random.

We decided Kavi needed a name inspired by the beautiful mountains where we first met. During research, we learned that the

indigenous first named Pikes Peak “Tava-Kahv,” meaning “Sun Mountain.” We wanted her name to reflect that same sense of warmth, strength, and connection to something bigger. From the very beginning, she felt like she was meant to be part of our family.

Now, we’re trying to give her the care she deserves and desperately needs. The surgery to correct her luxation is estimated to cost about $2,300, not including aftercare medications and follow-up visits. While we’ve looked into several financial assistance options, unfortunately, we do not qualify. These programs don’t take into account the full picture of our situation—my son and I are already (and have been for years) managing ongoing health issues that require routine specialist care, which has made covering this unexpected expense especially challenging. I have a very difficult time asking for help and being vulnerable, but we're dedicated to Kavi, and she deserves to live life without daily pain.

We’re raising funds to help cover Kavi’s surgery so she can get back to living without constant discomfort. Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward her medical care. Sharing her story is also a huge help.
