Help Katy recover from a severe stroke

Donation protected
Katy’s carotid artery ruptured causing a severe stroke on Saturday night the 23rd of October. A loving and dedicated single mother to two daughters, with no underlying health issues to have caused the stroke has caught us all by surprise. Many tears have been shed but now is the time for action to see what we can all do to support Katy and her daughters. We would greatly appreciate your help.

For 26 years, Katy has dedicated her career to helping in the Health Industry from Private Health Insurance consulting and Hospital Liaison Officer, a Chemotherapy Receptionist, Human Resources Administrator for a hospital and had only this year managed to move into a career she is passionate about, as a Disability Support Coordinator. As a single mother of two beautiful girls, Katy balanced her home life, work, and studies for her Bachelor of Psychological Science for years. 2021 was looking to be the year for Katy to get back on her feet and really start excelling in life and a career she loves.

Katy had emergency surgery on Sunday the 24th of October to repair the carotid artery that caused the stroke. Presently Katy has no movement or feeling down the left side of her body and her eyesight has been affected. From what we understand right now, rehabilitation will be required for approximately 2 years with at least 6-12 months as an inpatient.

The family and close friends have been working together to identify the disability Insurance cover available to Katy and have begun the process of establishing claims for disability support and pension. We have also reviewed her outgoing expenses and have culled it back as far as we can right now but have identified that there is still a shortfall each month and we are yet to see the medical bills. Family and friends will be doing what we can to maintain her property during this time as well and begin to understand the modifications that will be required depending on any permanent disabilities Katy may be dealing with.

As Katy’s brother, I am incredibly proud of my sister. Her strength and resolve to fight this every step of the way has amazed us all and our admiration increases every day. Katy understands the challenges she is going to be facing now and in the future. The power of positivity is going to help her immensely. We are all very relieved and pleased to know that Katy still has her sense of humour. It is going to be a long and hard journey for Katy and her daughters hence why we have set up a go fund me page. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and will be a huge help towards Katy’s recovery.
