Katy Butts Dehm was recently diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, cancer of the bone marrow. This cancer has caused Katy to have multiple bilateral rib fractures, two sternal fractures, seven vertebral fractures, and two sacral fractures.
The cancer weakened her so much that she had to relearn to walk. She is undergoing chemotherapy and immunotherapy locally. The next step in her treatment plan is an autologous stem cell transplant. This is not available in Maine, so she will have to travel to Boston for this procedure. Katy will be hospitalized for about a month and will require full time home healthcare afterwards for several weeks.
We are raising money to help Katy off set medical expenses, travel cost to and from Boston, lodging in Boston during her stem cell collection, medical equipment, and for home healthcare.
Please consider helping Katy out with this. She is the kindest person that I know, and as a teacher she has made the difference in the lives of thousands of students over the past 30 years. Let's help her kick cancer's butt!!!!
