Hello, my name is Kat, and I’ve never started a GoFundMe before — but I’m doing this because I don’t know what else to do.

I’m a college student in Massachusetts, and I’m raising funds for my boyfriend of two years, who is also a college student. He urgently needs to move out of his home due to a toxic and emotionally abusive environment.

His family forced him to live at home for college, promising to cover his tuition if he did. But they haven’t followed through — his loans aren’t filed, and now there’s a real chance he won’t be able to continue school if this semester isn’t paid.

At home, he’s constantly on edge. His father yells at him over small things, he’s been neglected in basic ways (he hasn’t even been to the dentist since before the pandemic), and he spends most of his time isolated in his room when he’s not at work or school.

To make matters worse, his family is leaving for a long trip to Indonesia in early December — two weeks before his finals. His ticket was bought without asking him, and if he refuses to go, they’ve threatened to ground him and force him anyway.

He’s been trying to fix his car so he can move out once they return, but the repairs are too expensive for him to cover on top of tuition and schoolwork.

Right now, he’s holding onto a dorm room on campus even though he still commutes — it’s his lifeline. I’m starting this fundraiser to help make that dorm space livable and to cover the costs of repairing his car so he can finally leave that environment for good.

Any amount helps — even a dollar or two makes a difference. Everything raised will go first toward his dorm setup (bedding, basic supplies, etc.) and then toward car repairs.
