Katrina was diagnosed with CADASIL after a visit to the Cleveland Clinic in 1999.
CADASIL was officially named and recognized as a distinct genetic disease in 1993 by Marie-Germaine Bousser and Elisabeth Tournier-Lasserve. It is a rare, inherited genetic disorder that damages small blood vessels in the brain, causing strokes, dementia, migraines with aura, and mood changes, typically starting in middle age due to a faulty NOTCH3 gene.
Being a genetic disorder, Katrina's family members with symptoms started to be tested. Unfortunately, some family members also tested positive.
Katrina loved her family more than words could describe and funds donated here will go directly to her family members that have tested positive for CADASIL.
