Help Katrina After Horse Accident
Katrina and her mother were riding horse on Sunday, August 29 at Tower Ridge in Eau Claire. It was getting dark so they decided to head back to their trailer, they were about 10 minutes from the parking lot. The trails that they were riding on were extremely wide, a vehicle could drive through without any issues, so they decided to gallop one last time side by side. As they came around a corner, at a full gallop, Katrina’s horse saw a path that was narrow leading up into the woods. Katrina’s horse made a sharp right to take that path which threw Katrina off balance. As her horse made his way into the woods, Katrina was still off balance and before she could correct herself she hit an Oak tree. Katrina was knocked straight off her horse, knocked to the ground, and was unconscious for 4-5 minutes.
Katrina’s mother thought she was dead as she was not moving and not breathing. Her mother begged her not to leave her and, for once, Katrina listened to her mother and regained consciousness. As soon as Katrina woke up she knew her collarbone was broke, she could not move her left leg, and had blood coming from her head.
Paramedics arrived and transported Katrina emergent to a local trauma hospital. She was diagnosed with a fracture in her left hip, fracture to left collarbone, fracture to her T3, concussion/mild TBI, and she had a laceration to the side of her head which required 17 staples to close it. She spent 3 nights in the trauma unit and was discharged on September 1.
Katrina is currently off work for an unknown amount of time and, of course, is unable to ride horse. She has a long road to recovery and it is a miracle that she is still with us today.
Katrina is in a C-Spine collar until further notice and is unable to drive. She has many appointments coming up with an Orthopedic Surgeon, Neurosurgeon, and speech therapy.
Katrina is eager to go back to work as the bills never stop coming in, but she knows the road to recovery will be long and as a 7 year veteran being a Police, Fire, EMS, and 911 dispatcher of Dunn County she needs to recover before returning to a stressful job.
She does have full health insurance but the deductible is high and we have not received any medical bills yet. The donations will go towards her deductible.
Any donation amount helps.
