Hi, My name is Daniel Zander. I am fundraising for my "Bonus Mom" (Stepmother) Katrina Zander.
Katrina was born with Beukes Hip Dysplasia (BHD) a rare inherited skeletal dysplasia in which the femur does not fit together with the pelvis as it should. This condition has been a part of Katrina's life since she was born. However, she has Never let it stop her from living her life to the fullest and being a true gift to those around her.
For as long as I have known Katrina she has always been the First to Jump up and Help others in need. From volunteering at Church/Community events to hosting family holidays. She is constantly serving others.
Dancing has also been one of her all-time favorite hobbies as she is full of laughs, smiles and amazing energy. However, she is now bound to use a cane just to walk around and is in constant severe pain.
Katrina had her first surgery at only 9 months old and since then has had to have multiple replacement/reconstructive surgeries throughout the years. Her initial surgery was in 1973, with several more as her body grew and parts wore her two most recent surgeries were in 1996 and again in 2009. Thankfully she has always had the majority of the costs covered through the Texas Rehabilitation for Children and Private insurance. Unfortunately, her hip parts have loosened and her hips socket is deteriorating accompanied by major bursitis. She is now facing yet another MAJOR surgery, reconstruction and parts replacement, but has no financial assistance or aid through any insurance companies.
The Surgery, Replacement Parts and Rehabilitation costs are currently estimated to be between $44,000-$48,000
*** Anything Raised Above & Beyond The Medical Costs Will Be Donated To St. Judes Children's Research Hospital ***
Katrina's rehabilitation process will take approximately 18 to 26 weeks with Extensive aqua-muscular physical therapy. Katrina will have to learn how to walk all over again, but She WILL Overcome and Someday Will Dance Again!
