Katrin was involved in a car accident on January 5, 2021, resulting in a spinal cord injury, right lung failure, kidney damage, a perforated bowel, and a concussion. She was hospitalized for four months and underwent multiple surgeries, including a full month in intensive care. All of her conditions were treated, thank God, except for the spinal cord injury, which forced her to use a wheelchair. She was unable to stand or walk. We took her to a physical therapy center in Orlando that specializes in spinal cord injuries, at our own expense. It's a four-hour drive from where we live, and a four-hour round trip, and we visit once a week. We purchased an electric bike for her to exercise at home at our own expense, but sadly, katrin developed scoliosis, which required a 10-hour surgery to correct. There is great hope for recovery and stem cell therapy, but the cost of treatment is prohibitive.
