Hi everyone!

Some of you have probably been seeing random photos of the tiny kitties we rescued. We found momma kitty and her babies outside in a bush on 6/9. The babies were just about a week old, and momma is somewhere between 6-9 months old. Babies having babies!

Since momma is so young, and very feral, she is stressed from babies and trying to find comfort in the calm, but scary, new environment.

We thought all was going well until we had one kitten die very unexpectedly this week. Another kitten was very quickly behind him, so we rushed him to the vet. Low blood sugar and pneumonia from breathing in momma’s milk. Since they are so young and tiny, and from outside, the vet had to run all the careful tests.

Keeping the little at the 24 hour vet under constant oxygen, care, and every test you can think of for the last few days has added up to about $10k.

He is still there, and still on oxygen. They need to do another xray or two to make sure that his pneumonia is clearing up. The X-rays themselves are not too bad, but the tech translating them is where the big money is. Plus, the hourly oxygen rate of about $25.

UPDATE: Little Oliver is home and thriving. He and his brothers, Gus and Bruce, are growing so quickly! Momma and babies all had Feline Calicivirus. Since momma was feral, she was never vaccinated, and babies were too little. Luckily, the four of them all seem to have kicked the sniffles and have plenty of energy.
