Hello, my name is Katrena and I am in a heck of a mess! I can't believe this is happening! Here's the deal: I was a caretaker for five years for my father, who died in 2022 of cancer, and my mother, who died on May 10, 2025. She left a beneficiary deed to their home for me. They had a mortgage on their home, and I took all the life insurance and paid the home off. Big mistake. Lightning hit a tree, and the tree went through the roof in the living room and the den. Homeowners insurance was paid annually through the mortgage company until March. Well, the insurance company is telling me that it's not covered because my mother has been gone for over 120 days and that they will not cover it. I am freaking out! I haven't worked in the past five years because I've been caretaking, and I plan on going out and getting a job, but I can't even get my front door to shut because of what it has done to this house. I have never been a homeowner before, which I'm really not because the house went into the "Estate of my parents," and it won't go into my name until I go through probate. This is all new to me. I have no one fighting me, so I don't understand why I have to go through probate, and I guess that takes a good sum of money, and I have no money. I really need help and I can't believe I'm on GoFundMe, but I don't know what else to do. I am scared and I hope someone out there can help me. I try to sell stuff on Marketplace, and I'm trying to sell everything I own to try to make some money, but nobody wants my stuff. If anyone's got any extra money and can help me, I would so much appreciate it. You just don't understand how much this would mean to me if I could get this fixed. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my ranting, but I am all alone and don't know what to do.
