Help Katlyn Powers Fight Osteosarcoma & Preserve Her Dream of a Family

What began as simple knee pain for Katlyn Powers quickly escalated into something unimaginable—a tumor in her knee, and the devastating discovery that her femur had been hollowed out by cancer. Katlyn has since been diagnosed with stage 2B osteosarcoma, an aggressive and rare form of bone cancer.

Now, Katlyn and her husband Austin are facing months of grueling treatment, major surgeries, and a future filled with uncertainty.

The Challenge Ahead

Katlyn’s journey begins with surgery to implant a chemotherapy port, followed by 6 cycles of intensive chemotherapy starting in mid-August. Treatment will be administered at Mayo Clinic Hospital - Phoenix. After the first two cycles, she’ll undergo complex surgeries to replace both her femur and knee—a daunting procedure that marks just the beginning of her recovery.

Once she heals, Katlyn will continue with four more cycles of chemotherapy and months of physical therapy and rehabilitation.

Her nieces and nephews are already cheering her on, convinced her new “robot leg” will make her the fastest in the family—a bright light in an otherwise difficult journey.

An Urgent Need for Fertility Preservation

One of the most heartbreaking aspects of this diagnosis is that chemotherapy, while essential to saving Katlyn’s life, could also harm her fertility. Before treatment begins, she and Austin are working urgently to preserve her eggs in hopes of keeping their dream of starting a family alive.

Unfortunately, fertility preservation comes at a significant cost—and it's not covered by insurance.
