Katja has been my life companion for nearly 14 years. She's basically my domestic partner! Anyone who has met her falls in love with her sweet demeanor. She loves snuggling on a lap. She's always the first person I interact with (reading a book with her on my lap) and the last (winding down in the evening with her on my lap). She's always been there for me, and I want to provide for her as best as I can as well.
Despite now being a "senior" at 14, she is still active and goes on a walk around the yard most days. She doesn't jump like she used to, but she still gets the zoomiez at least once per day!
Katja was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism about two years ago. It's managed with medication, and she seems to be doing well. However, we recently had a close call over the holidays. She suddenly became seriously ill with a kidney infection on Christmas Eve, and I nearly lost her. I ended up having to hospitalize her for a couple days. She is back to her normal self now, but she now has chronic kidney disease that must be managed. I also learned that hyperthyroidism can mask an underlying kidney disease, which I wish I knew when she was diagnosed.
I am endlessly grateful to get to spend more time with her, but I can't afford the bills for her hospital stay. I'm also worried that if she gets another infection, I won't be able to pay for it. I am also buying her medicated food for her kidney disease, and medication for her hyperthyroidism, and follow-up visits to keep an eye on her kidney levels. I would also love to be able to spoil her with her favorite treats and cozy beds, because she deserves it!
If Katja ever impacted your life in a positive way, I would greatly appreciate some help paying for her care. Even a few dollars or sharing helps! Thank you:)
