Help Katie’s Fight Against Endometrioid Ovarian Cancer
Donation protected
In January 2025 while my sister Katie was exploring fertility and pregnancy options, she had an ultrasound done. She was told at the time of the ultrasound that there was a concern for a large ovarian mass. After multiple lab draws for cancer markers, it was actually looking rather positive that this may be benign. She was scheduled to have the ovary removed the second week of January. During her operation, her surgeon informed my family and her husband Kurt that this mass was actually 2 masses (encompassing both ovaries) and that she had endometriosis with large cysts as a result. The pathology in the OR came back positive for endometrioid ovarian cancer, which arises from the endometriosis cyst itself and inhabits the ovary, which is a rare occurrence. She subsequently underwent a total hysterectomy that day.
She is now faced with undergoing chemotherapy upcoming within a month. She is 34 years old and this severely blindsided all of us. This is taking a large toll physically, emotionally, and financially. She is a self employed mental health therapist, and as a result she cannot work as consistently as she would like. Along with this, since she is self employed, she does not have the benefit of short term disability to fall back on. I’m setting up this GoFundMe in the hopes that although we can’t ease their emotional burdens, maybe we can help a little financially.
