Help Katie Theasby Record Her Second Album
Donation protected
'My name is Laura Mulcahy and I have decided to write something today about my friend, Katie Theasby - a beautiful singer and a glorious whistle player living here in Clare. She is a kind, gentle woman and finds it hard to write about her music, much less ask for help from her community on here to record her second album. I am putting pen to paper today to do the asking on her behalf.
What can I say about Katie?
Katie has an extraordinary voice. When she begins to sing, all of time stands still because the well of tradition she draws from is so emotionally deep, one cannot help but be captivated. Her melodious, honeyed delivery of her chosen repertoire weaves it's way around your heart and stays with you forever.
You can look at this video of Katie's superlative interpretation of Ewan McColl's incredible song, 'The Terror Time' here Her rendition of this song is the stuff of spinal shivers
So why should you help my friend make her second album? Here is why:
Katie Theasby is one of the best vocalists Ireland has to offer, bar none, so supporting her work financially is a complete no-brainer. You know you are getting a quality product for your investment. Despite being shy in nature Katie has already racked up great success as a singer- her debut record was playlisted by RTÉ Radio One on its release. And if I'm not mistaken she also achieved album of the week on RTÉ Radio One for her debut.
Take another listen to Katie's stunning voice here as she sings 'Lullaby' by Billy Joel.
It is high time Katie gave us another record and I am appealing to people to get involved in helping Katie deliver this piece of work. She is a dedicated musician; music is not just a phase for her. Katie has more than paid her dues in playing at sessions for years, playing festivals up and down the country and abroad (Electric Picnic, Glastonbury, Doolin Folk Festival etc.) and has collaborated with many other top musicians too (Finbar Furey, Ger O'Donnell, Shaskeen, Ron Kavana - the list is endless). She is making music for decades and wants to keep making music for decades more.
And finally, as if all of the above isn't enough of a reason for you to want to invest in Katie's music fund, I am here to personally vouch for the good character of my friend. A legend of a musician and singer she may be, but Katie is also a kind and compassionate person. Not so long ago she did me the huge favour of singing my mother's favourite song at her funeral. That is something I will always be grateful for.
Please consider giving to Katie's music fund. Anything you can spare is so, so valuable to her. If you cannot give money, please consider sharing her fund with your friends and help putting the good word out there. I really want to see my friend reaching for the stars.'
