As many of you know, my dear friend Katie Twardowicz has been courageously navigating a journey no parent should have to face. Her son Jaxson has undergone multiple heart surgeries, and next Thursday, May 22nd, he will be facing his fifth open-heart surgery at Duke.

The emotional and physical toll this has taken on Katie is immense. As Jaxson’s recovery could take a month or longer, she will need to remain in North Carolina, far from home, and fully focused on his care. Katie has put her career on hold these past few years to become Jaxson’s full-time caregiver, taking only part-time jobs when possible.

While her family has supported her every step of the way, this is a moment when we, as her extended community, can help ease some of the financial and emotional strain. I’m starting a GoFundMe for Katie and Jaxson—not just to support the immediate medical travel and living expenses, but to show them that they are not alone in this fight.
