Help Katie Spatafore get surgery and treatment

Hello everyone, as you all are well aware Katie my beautiful wife has been struggling with her spine for well over two decades. For those of you that aren’t aware of what is going on. Three years ago she had a surgery to place new hardware in her spine. We thought the surgery went well and she was able to get some mobility. What we were not made aware of however is the fact that she had a bunch of cysts growing that are extremely rare to have especially in someone as young as her. The doctor said since it’s not symptomatic there’s nothing that can be done and she will just have to live with the pain. Well as the pain started to get worse and worse up until last year we knew there was something wrong. The doctor had mentioned that maybe she should get her hardware removed but that he’s not the one to do it because he hasn’t like removing hardware. We were then directed to see a doctor up in grand Junction Colorado about getting the hardware removed. This doctor promised the world and delivered even less. She unfortunately started developing pain in yet more new areas that she had never experienced before in her lower lumbar spine. He had nothing that he could do for her so she and I were completely lost as to what to do for her. She started researching what she was going through and found a pain specialist here in Montrose who is an amazing doctor but could not do much more than drain the cysts in her spine. After that, the cyst screw back very quickly. We tried to have him drain it a second time but to no avail. Then he mentioned someone on YouTube that we began to watch whom he said has the same symptoms that she does and that it is most likely the same disease. The disease she has is called Tarlov cyst syndrome. There are apparently only two doctors in the whole world that perform the surgery that is required for her. One is in Texas and one is in California. Before I go any further please allow me to explain what is entailed with the surgery. In order to fully remove the cyst you must either scrape it off the spinal cord which is very painful, or they do get another painful remedy which entails cutting open your leg pulling some fat out and wrapping it around the cyst to squeeze that spinal fluid that it is collecting back into the spinal cord. Where hers are sitting out on the lower lumbar spine it makes her arms and her legs go completely numb at random times of the day especially at night if she has exerted all her energy that she has in her back. Back to the surgeons. We first started with the one in California. We were told that since no doctor in Colorado could actually treat for this disease she could get an out-of-state medical approval with Medicaid no problem. After being told by California that she could be approved they had scheduled the surgery and informed her that yes they can do the surgery but Medicaid will not pay for it so it will have to be out out of pocket. I kill bugs for a living I don’t make that much money so I had to try going to a foundation who would hopefully provide some support financially for this. They also declined her twice. We were battling the California doctors office for about six months before we just decided to give up because there was nothing happening. Now onto the one in Texas. The one in Texas also said they would take her case and that Medicaid would cover it and then they said that it would not cover it. Basically everything that happened with California happened in Texas. The problem is that even as an out-of-pocket for the surgery we have to pay upfront. I am in no way shape or form asking everyone to throw massive amounts of money at us but I am asking you all to give out of what you feel led to give. We have two children serenity is nine and Genevieve is six years old. I am working is hard and as long as ours as I possibly can. I’m doing everything I can to find extra income however I have to be honest when I say that we need help. If any of you know CHVRCHES foundations any ideas for fundraisers etc. we would greatly appreciate all the help we can get right now. Again I’m not asking for someone to just forked over $250,000 but I am asking for support from our family and friends because I am honestly just so sick and tired of watching my wife do so much for everyone around her myself included and at the end of the day being completely burnt out and crying in pain all night long. One last thing you should know about her condition. She can’t sit stand or lay down for more than 30 minutes at a time. Every half hour she hast to get up and move around. When she’s sleeping at night she has to begin pacing back-and-forth until the pain will subside enough just to wake up 30 minutes to an hour later. We love you all we are deeply thankful for all that you guys have done for us over the years. I’m just asking if there’s anyone that can help please pray about it. God bless you all.
