Katie is a single mom living in Bend Oregon and lost her home and barely escaped with her two children from a house fire on July 16th 2021. She had been renting her home for the last 15 years and renters insurance is only willing to cover a small amount. As of right now they are looking for temporary housing, and as many know the market right now is a tough one, especially in beautiful Bend. Katie is a very strong willed independent woman, but her family and I know this is a time where we ask the community to step in.
She was able to get her sleeping children out of the home with the clothes on their back and that was it. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but it start out in the yard near the sidewalk. It is presumed that a cigarette butt may have been the cause. Katie's entire home was destroyed as well as part of her neighbors home.
The funds from this will help Katie and her children get back on their feet as best as possible and help purchase clothing, toiletries, basic household needs, new ID's, car titles etc. All of the little things that are so easily forgotten about yet add up to so much expense. Her housing costs will be partially covered by insurance due to the heightened market, so funds will also help house them until their permanent home is figured out.
Thank you so much for helping Katie and her children during this horrible tragedy.
