Katie moved to the Pacific Northwest seven years ago, leaving her family and everything familiar behind. Since then, she’s faced more than her share of challenges, but has always managed to keep going and help others along the way. She’s my partner’s best friend, and someone who would go out of her way to help anyone in need, no matter the circumstances.
Recently, Katie’s world was turned upside down. Her apartment was severely damaged in a fire, and nearly everything inside was ruined by smoke, heat, flames or fire retardant. The damage was so extensive that she can’t live at home and is currently staying with friends. On top of this, she recently lost her father, making this an especially difficult time. Despite working hard and doing her best to stay positive, the weight of losing so much is taking its toll.
Katie now faces the daunting task of rebuilding her life from scratch. She needs to replace essentials like clothing, dishes, and furniture, and will need to find a new place to live—which means coming up with first and last month’s rent and a deposit. It’s hard enough being far from family and support, and now she’s dealing with being displaced by circumstances beyond her control. I’m hoping that, together, we can show Katie the same care and kindness she’s shown so many others. Any amount you can spare will make a real difference for her as she starts to rebuild.
