Hi all, Kendall here. I'm writing on behalf of our sweet friends, Katie and Luz.

Just today (October 14), while on her way to Lafayette for another family member’s funeral, Katie received the devastating news that her mom, Carol, had passed away suddenly on October 13, 2025.

Just one month earlier, Katie and her spouse Luz were celebrating their marriage on September 13 — surrounded by love, joy, and Lucy friggin' Dacus. Now, only weeks later, they are faced with an overwhelming and heartbreaking loss.

Katie and Luz, who moved to OKC last year, will be in Lafayette for an undetermined amount of time to be with family and handle arrangements. Both work in the service industry, which means time away from work means no income. We want to give them the space to grieve, heal, and support their loved ones without the added worry of rent, bills, or basic expenses piling up.

We are hoping to raise one month’s worth of living expenses (rent, utilities, car payment, etc.) so that Katie and Luz can take the time they need to find their footing again.
