DAY 1
Hello, my name is Katie “Ketchum” Gonzalez. I am a 24-year-old wife to Antonio Gonzalez and mother to 3 beautiful children: Myah age 5, Adrian age 3, Avayah age 6 months.
On Monday, January 24, 2022, while my husband was at work, I was at home with my 3 children. This story begins while gaming online I became a victim of a drive-by shooting. I took a single bullet to the head through my right ear. Apparently, when EMS arrived at my location, I was responsive and was taken to the local hospital. After arriving they determined there wasn’t anything they could do for me, so I was Med Vac to OU Medical Center. After arriving at OU multiple bullet fragments were removed from my right-side head and ear. My ear has been sutured. So, I am currently in ICU. I was on a respirator and have no noticeable movement on the left side of my body. It was determined that at that point if I had not been wearing my gaming headset I would not be here today.

Due to COVID the hospital only allows 1 person in the room, my husband has not left my side. My husband started a new job about 3 weeks ago, he hasn’t been there long enough to accrue sick days, vacation days, or paid time off. My 3 babies are with various family members. My family cannot get back into the house to get clothes, formula, personal belongings, etc. due to the fact it is an ACTIVE CRIME SCENE.

PLEASE KEEP ME AND MY FAMILY IN YOUR PRAYERS!!

DAY 2
I was taken off the respirator this morning. I have received multiple CT scans in the last two days. The swelling in my brain has decreased, but I still have limited movement on the left side of my body. I can respond with a thumbs up when asked a question, but I can not speak. I am getting therapy daily and neurological exams hourly. After my last CT scan today, it has been determined that there are too many bullet fragments left in my brain to be removed to have another operation. I will have to live with this inside me for the rest of my life! It’s too early to determine by permanent injuries or outcome.

DAY 3
So, I have found out now that my scan showed that I have a Left intraventricular hemorrhage, right subdermal hematoma (will not have to drain as of now). I have fractures in my right temporal lobe and right frontal lobe. Found out that the fragments are pinhole-sized and a little bigger. I did well in therapy today. I saw my mom today and I said her name (very softly). I was alert longer this afternoon but still took my naps.
