Hello everyone.
As many of you may already know, we did something similar to this in 2020 as Katie needed a gastric bypass to keep living. Her health was getting to a dangerous point that probably would've killed her. We cannot thank you enough for how many of you donated and helped us pay for her surgery since our insurance wouldn't cover it. The healthcare system is such a hard thing to work with, and both Katie and I have had our fair share of health problems over the years which has caused us to be very familiar with this process. Now, we're at it again.
Back in November 2021, we started the long, arduous process of the past six months to try and start taking care of Katie's teeth. Some of her teeth were rotted enough that they had to pull them. She has no back molars and needs root canals and crowns on the remaining teeth. She doesn't want to feel pain anymore, and she wants to be able to eat the things that she loves. Not being able to eat has also caused her to be hungry and nauseous constantly, and we have slowly seen her quality of life deteriorate. We have had many letters of medical necessity, phone calls, and arduous meetings with our dental and medical insurance. Much to our chagrin, they won't cover enough of her surgery for her to feel free again.
As Samwise Gamgee says, sometimes the stories are full of darkness and danger, and sometimes you don't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad has happened?
In the end, even darkness must pass. A new day will come.
These are words that have comforted us in these dark times because these are dark times, Mr. Frodo.
We hate to be in this situation again, but we know many people have encouraged us to start a GoFundMe to see how much money we can raise for this surgery. So we're asking for as much as you can give us to help with the surgery. We hope to one day be able to pay it forward enough as so many have done to us. We know that there's some good in this world. And it's worth fighting for. And Katie's life is worth fighting for.
